ENHANCING CARE THROUGH GRADUATE MEDICAL EDUCATION

The Missouri GME Technical Assistance Center (TAC) supports hospitals, clinics, and communities across the state in developing and strengthening Graduate Medical Education (GME) programs. Funded by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, the TAC provides expert guidance, education, and connections to expand training opportunities, grow the physician workforce, and improve healthcare access statewide.

Richard LaBaere II, DO, MPH, FNAOME, FAODME serves as Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education and Designated Institutional Official for A.T. Still University–Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (ATSU-KCOM) and Still OPTI. He directs the Missouri Graduate Medical Education Technical Assistance Center (TAC), leading statewide initiatives to expand, strengthen, and sustain residency training programs in support of Missouri’s physician workforce.

Dr. LaBaere earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Michigan State University, a Master of Public Health from the University of Michigan and completed his internship and residency in family medicine at Flint Osteopathic Hospital.

A board-certified family physician with more than 30 years of experience in medical education, Dr. LaBaere provides oversight for the National Center for Osteopathic Principles and Practice Education (NCOPPE) and serves as a member of the Missouri GME Advisory Council. His leadership background includes service as program director, designated institutional official, medical education administrator, chair of the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners, as well as former member of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Institutional Review Committee.

Dana Nelson, MA serves as Executive Director of Still OPTI and the National Center for Osteopathic Principles and Practice Education (NCOPPE) at A.T. Still University–Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (ATSU-KCOM). She also serves as the Program Coordinator for the Missouri Graduate Medical Education Technical Assistance Center (TAC), supporting statewide initiatives to expand and sustain graduate medical education programs.

Ms. Nelson holds a Master of Arts in Human Resource Development from Webster University and is a 2024–2025 Fellow of the AACOM/UNC Sheps Center GME Development Fellowship.

Ms. Nelson has more than 15 years of experience in graduate medical education. She began her career as the residency coordinator for the General Surgery program at the Truman Medical Center (now called University Health) and later served as the Graduate Medical Education Manager at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Florida. In her current role, she oversees accreditation processes, faculty development, and GME operations while coordinating collaborative efforts that strengthen osteopathic education and training opportunities across Missouri.
